This project accomplished the historical restoration of a unique covered bridge with flat roof construction, duplicated in only a few other places in the world. Rehabilitation efforts required replacement and restoration of key members of the main span, and rebuilding of the approach spans. The existing roof was replaced, and new siding was installed to protect the integrity of the primary town lattice truss. The entrance canopy was restored to the original arch shape.
This bridge provided the setting for the national best selling novel, “The Bridges of Madison County”.
