To deal with rapid growth and centralize many satellite offices, Pioneer commissioned the design and construction of a new two-story, 400,000 square foot office/laboratory facility in Johnston, Iowa. Located along Beaver Creek and adjacent to Pioneer test fields, the project was a design-build, fast-track project built as two separate projects.
The building is a steel frame structure supported on concrete spread footings. Floor slabs are concrete on a steel deck supported by composite steel beams. Lateral load resisting elements consist of precast wall panels and steel “K”-bracing.
The contractor, Ryan Companies, claims “the structural steel package was the most economical they ever built.”
The project was completed using a fast-track construction and design-build delivery method.
