This design build project was an amazing undertaking for the owner, contractors and design team due to it's complexity, size, and aggressive schedule. The project went from concept to completion in only 15 months, a phenominal achievement by all involved.
The distribution center is framed with steel tube columns, steel joists and joist girders, steel roof deck and supported on spread footings. The building is broken into four pieces with strategically located expansion joints to eliminate any negative affects from thermal movements encountered by a structure of this size. The building is laterally supported by a series of steel x-brace frames and precast wall panels along the 29 stall loading dock.
There are 0°F and 28°F freezer compartments located within the facility, each of which will provide an astonishing 1,000,000 cubic feet of storage. The north end of the building is composed of an 8 level Automated Storage and Retreval System which allows the owner to operate the entire facility with less than 20 employees. This new distribution center was a major investment for the owner, but with the quality craftmanship of the contractor, the durable and low maintenance details designed by Shuck-Britson Inc. and the architect, this state of the art building will successfully serve Fareway Stores Inc. for many years to come.
