The SW Third Street bridge spans the Raccoon River near the new Sec Taylor Stadium. The bridge opens a new access corridor into downtown Des Moines from the South Side. The open concrete rails and ornamental iron rails were designed to complement the architectural features of nearby Sec Taylor Stadium. The beams were set for clearance above the record flood levels of 1993. An eight foot wide sidewalk with pedestrian observation modules was provided for pedestrians, bicyclists and fishermen. This project qualified for 80% federal funding, and SBI performed construction review services to assure full city reimbursement for eligible costs.
